Taikan-Ten held every November in Kyoto is the second largest bonsai show in Japan. Besides having wonderful trees, there is also a judging for suiseki which are then placed in the show.
Peter who was at the show and will be posting at a later date the trees being shown was kind enough to take photos of the suiseki and the sales area. Today we are posting Part I on the suiseki and over the next couple of days we will post pictures from the sales area.
There are a number of important suiseki being shown in this show. Years ago suiseki and bonsai were often shown together. This tradition has begun to ebb away and we wonder if this should be reconsidered. That will be a topic for a future post. So let’s get to seeing some very fine stones.
The above suiseki was sold about five years ago in a WABI auction. We have a copy of the page where it was being auctioned.
The stone was estimated at 500,000 to 700,000 Yen and sold for 500,000 Yen which at the time of the auction was equivalent to ~$51,000. A beautiful stone of great quality. This is one of our favorite stones.
An excellent shore stone. We keep looking for something like this to place in our Harada Houn doban.
An excellent stone representing mother and child; that is what we see.
An excellent stone. This has been shown in the Nippon Suiseki Association show several times.
Part II will contain another 20 or so suiseki. We hope you have enjoyed this photos. Again thanks Peter!
